Never underestimate the bandwidth of a stationwagon full of tapes hurtling down the freeway [Andy Tanenbaum]. If there’s data that isn’t time sensitive to be retrieved from a bus stop, we can install a data collection gadget on one or more buses, transfer the data when the bus is near the stop and transfer the data again to a base station at the depot or somewhere along the route.
Where this is relevant is the pitch we gave to Innovate UK’s IoT Launchpad 2 competition. We’re proposing, amongst other things, a sensor network in bus stops in London to provide new data feeds, such as footfall, rainfall, wind speed and other data from the environment as can be fitted in. Fingers are crossed!
